Vangathangudi

Vangathangudi aka Vengathangudi is a typical village which is nearer to Mannargudi, in Thiruvarur District, Tamil Nadu, India. It has the famous Vairavanathar temple (now renovating is going on) and a panchayat school.

Demographics

Vangathangudi is the panchayat which includes the villages Vedapuram and Singamangalam. Vangathangudi itself has more than 300 families and nearly 900 eligible voters. The main source of livelihood is agriculture but it is possible only for six months in a year normally from June to March due to the irrigation depends on Mettur Reservoir. Most of the people goes to Thiruppur, Coiambatore and Chennai to find nominal jobs during summer.

Vangathangudi and its surroundings are rich in oil resources since it is in the Cauvery asset. ONGC(Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited) has been analysing these areas for the past fifteen years and also successful in finding oil resources.
