Amber Sound FM is a Community Radio station based in the Amber Valley, Derbyshire. It was awarded a five year community license by OFCOM in 2008 after several Restricted Service License broadcasts. Amber Sound FM's music policy is simple. To play you more music and be more local, with a wide variety of music from the last three decades mixed with today's contemporary hits. Amber Sound FM will also feature specialist programmes focusing on many different genres of music like Country, Rock, RnB, Gospel, Dance and more, all broadcast by local people.

History

The original Amber Sound FM was on air over 12 years ago with 2 restricted service licences back in October 1995 and the second broadcast August 1996.The station was ran by local DJ Chris Knight and local businessman Alan Farrar. They both were originally part of the team of Valley Radio who did there first broadcast from a railway carriage at the Midland Railway Centre in Ripley, Derbyshire in October 1994. Between the 2 groups a further 3 other broadcasts in April 1995, January 1996 and November 1996. Both stations felt that the Amber Valley was under served by the other local stations in area. So went to work to give the Amber Valley a station of its own. After an amount of radio activity in the area the 2 groups called it a day back in 1996. Meanwhile the first rounds of community licences have been awarded to stations around the UK. Amber Sound FM still believed there was a market for another radio station in the Amber Valley area to cover the musical tastes, issues and provide training for local people of all ages that are not covered by other local services. It was this belief that prompted Amber Sound FM to successfully apply for a community radio license.

Amber Sound FM are proud to have recognisable local presenters with decades of On-Air experience between them. All of team are local to the area, with a host of talents including: programming, producing, presenting, broadcast engineering to name but a few. All members of the Amber Sound FM team are committed to providing high quality output and uncompromising attention to detail.

Training Programs

Amber Sound FM have a dedicated studio facility used to train young people interested in broadcast media. Young people have training in all areas of radio, to help them understand how each department of a on-air station works. Presenters from Amber Sound FM help and assist young people to learn about presenting, programming and administrative areas, which gives them a fully rounded view on how a Radio Station works on a day to day basis.
