Bingham High School located in the Jordan School District, it is one of the oldest school's in Utah celebrating it's centennial celebration on Sep, 9, 2008. It serves over 2,555 + student's in the surrounding area's of South Jordan, Riverton, and Bluffdale.

History

In 1908, Jordan School District drew plans to build a high school in South Jordan/Riverton area. The project started late during the year with money granted for $35,000 dollars by the District and the city to build the high school on the boundary lines of South Jordan and Riverton. Construction was completed in 1912, housing over 1,000 student's in the area. During it's 100 years leading up to it's centennial celebration, the high school has created district traditions used by other schools, like 'b' days and it's first yearbook. [http://binghamalumni.org] The mascot of the school was enacted after the school was open, honoring the miners who worked in the Kennecott Copper Mines, and those who died in the mines. The school has developed over the recent years and formidable athletics team, rivaling those in national standards. It's education in recent years has been shaky due to the school's shortage of new teachers. [http://utah.schooltree.org/public/bingham-high-088760.html] In 1998 bingham had the highest student population in the state ,due to the population growth in Riverton and Herriman, until 1999 when it's school population decreased due to an new high school that was created in the area, Riverton High School. The school has had a steady growth in it's population but has not retained it's highest point since 1998. The school has recently celebrated it's centennial celebration in Sept, 9, 2008. Since the school was built in 1908, many school programs has been developed through the 100 years of it's existence. Many of these programs are separate organization, since the District only focuses on social programs, the school has developed an uncanny relationship with the District, with many of it's programs canceled during the years, and new one's created to accommodate District standards.
