Page Plus Cellular is a vendor of prepaid wireless services in the United States. They are a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) using the Verizon Wireless network.

Page Plus offers traditional pay as you go plans, where subscribers pay for minutes before using them. They also offer prepaid plans which include unlimited nights and weekends, and unlimited calling.

History

Page Plus was established in 1993 as Page Plus Communications, selling pager services in the Toledo, Ohio area. They serviced around 10,000 customers in the region.

In August of 1998, the company became Page Plus Cellular, and launched in Ohio and Michigan. A nationwide launch happened two years later, in 2000. In 2001, they were ranked the fourth best MVNO by RCR Wireless News. Funny Money

Until recently, Page Plus used a unique method to scale user account balances. The problem was that their top-up cards each carry a different rate, from 8 cents per minute up to 12 cents per minute. For the solution, once a top up card was purchased, the rate would scale to 12 cents per minute. If a customer bought an $80 card, worth 1,400 minutes, those minutes would be scaled to 12 cents, meaning the user had an account balance of $168. This was to make it easier for customers to buy two different top-up cards, since the rate would be universally scaled to 12 cents per minute. This made text messaging cheaper as well, since the 8 or 15 cents charge would come from the scaled balance.
