Viktor Mikhailovich Goncharenko (born
June 10 ,1977 inKhoiniki ) is aBelarus ian football coach who is currently head manager ofFC BATE . Before he became head manager of FC BATE, Goncharenko was assistant manager at FC BATE under coachesYuri Puntus andIgor Kriushenko . Goncharenko played for the same club as a defender in the late 1990s and early 2000s, before being forced to retire through injury at just 25 years old. Under Goncharenko's leadership, FC BATE in 2008 became the first club from Belarus to qualify for the lucrative group stages of theUEFA Champions League after they defeatedPFC Levski Sofia 2-1 on aggregate.After once losing his passport, Goncharenko got a replacement with an erroneous date of birth. Instead of June 10, 1977 it was reading September 10, 1977. The wrong date subsequently got widespread.
