22 Park Circus, Glasgow

22 Park Circus, Glasgow is a town house located in Glasgow, Scotland. The current home of the City of Glasgow Registrar of Civil weddings, it was designed as the home of industrialist Walter Macfarlane of the Saracen Foundry, Possilpark.

The Park District was planned by architect Charles Wilson in the mid-1800s to crown Woodlands Hill overlooking Kelvingrove.citeweb|url=http://www.registerofficeweddings.co.uk/glasgow/|title=22 Park Circus|publisher=registerofficeweddings|accessdate=2008-08-26] Situated on the corner of Park Circus and Park Street South, Number 22 Park Circus forms the start of a curved terrace originally designed by architect James Boucher, and built from 1872-1874. After Walter Macfarlane's death in 1885, it was taken over by his nephew Walter Macfarlane II, who asked Glaswegian architects James Salmon and J Gaff Gillespie to modernise the building, incorporating as many of the Saracen Foundry's best display pieces into the structure - including a glass dome and a cast iron conservatory.citeweb|url=http://glasgowsculpture.com/pg_biography.php?sub=macfarlane_w-co|title=Walter Macfarlane & Co|publisher=glasgowsculpture.com|accessdate=2008-08-26]

In the 1930s, the building became the meeting place for the city's Italian community, and after the Second World War was utilised as a regional Italian consulate. In 1990, it passed to developers who, in co-operation with the Historic Scotland, set about restoring the building. On a long term lease to Glasgow City Council, it is now the home of the City of Glasgow Registrar of Civil Weddings.citeweb|url=http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/en/Residents/BirthDeathMarriage_Citizenship/Marriage/CivilWeddingsatParkCircus/ |title=22 Park Circus|publisher=City Of Glasgow Council|accessdate=2008-08-26]
