- Web100
=Web100=
Web100 is the name of a computer software project created to address performance problems in computer networks. Web100 addresses:
1. The lack of effective instrumentation to diagnose performance issues.
2. Operating system software (principally TCP) that is optimized for low bandwidth environments by default.
3. The lack of external mechanisms for tuning network transfers that are in progress.Web100 software allows inspection of the inner parameters of TCP, the primary protocol used in the Internet. This instrumentation permits problems to be identified. Tools such as
NPAD and "NDT" at http://e2epi.internet2.edu/ndt/ make use of Web100 to analyze network performance problems. Web100 also provides mechanisms to modify the attributes of active network connections so that they can be tuned on-the-fly to maximize performance and machine resources. When this tuning is automated, it is called autotuning.Web100 software was developed with support from the National Science Foundation [www.nsf.gov] .
