Jamia tur Rasheed

Jamia-tur-Rasheed (Arabic: جامعتہ الرشید) is an Islamic institution situated in Karachi, Pakistan.

Introduction

Jamia-tur-Rasheed is a distinct institution of religious studies providing a comprehensive system of imparting religious studies. Jamia is a great addition in the leading educational and religious institutions of the country. Within a short span of time, Jamia has joined the rank of huge seminaries of the country. Along with the imparting of theological subjects, Jamia encourages a practical demonstration of “Islah” (Rectification) and instruction, training and civility, religious values and ethics. All educational subjects incorporated in religious seminaries form part of the Jamia. Some of the Educational, Reformative and administrative features of Jamia are unique.

Educational courses

Educational courses in Jamia fall into two categories:

• Long Courses

• Short Courses

Long Courses

These persist throughout the educational year (lasting from the Islamic month of Shawwal till Rajab) and include the following:

1. Nazra-wa-Hifzay Quran Majeed: -

There are eight groups of Nazra and Hifzay Quran (Reading from text and memorization of the holy Quran) which run under the supervision of ten teachers. One teacher has 25 to 30 students in his group. Almost 250 students are enrolled in memorization of the Holy Book.

2. Dars-e-Nizami

Dars-e-Nizami is the basis of the syllabus of almost all religious seminaries of Indo-Pakistan. This system provides for the same basic books of knowledge and skills which were part of the old Dars-e-Nizami. Circumstances and temporal challenges, however, necessitate improvement and amendments. Almost 60 books of this syllabus of Dars-e-Nizami including Sarf, Nahw, Meaning, Rhetoric, Literature, Logic, Philosophy, Jurisprudence, Principles of Jurisprudence, Interpretation, Hadith and Principles of Hadith are part of the instruction in most of the religious seminaries. Jamia has introduced some useful and modern changes in the syllabus, incorporating some other skills which were earlier not part of the syllabus. Dars-e-Nizami has 6 stages (Mutawasta, Ama, Khasa, Aliya, Aalmiya, Thakhasus) spanning over a period of 15 years. Mutawasta Stage: - This stage is spread over 5 years and admissions are given to primary passes students. This stage contains Islamiats, Persian, Seerat (Biography of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), Islamic history and education up to class 10th. Last two years (9th & 10th) exams are conducted through Secondary Board Karachi and for these arrangements are made by Jamia’s Alberuni Model secondary school. Apart from this stage, all other stages consist of 2 years. Dars-e-Nizami with some amendments is taught in all these stages.

3. Mahadul Lughatul Arabia

Usually students of Dars-e-Nizami are not au fait with spoken and written Arabic. To awaken an urge in students for spoken and written Arabic, Mahadul Lughatul Arabia has been mapped out wherein all lessons are imparted in Arabic. Students of Mahad interact in Arabic with other students and teachers. Although Mahad, on the whole, falls under the general Education system, yet Mahad has a system of its own in students’ education and examination. Announcements, Rules & Regulation, examination result and students’ forms are all written in Arabic. Mahad’s syllabus, apart from the registered syllabus of Wafaq, consists of History, Geography, Situation of present Muslim world, Alghaz wal Fikri and one hour English.
