Matsieng Footprints

Matsieng Footprints

The Matsieng Footprints are engraved footprints found in southern Botswana north of the capital city Gaboronelast 2000 years, a legend speaks of a giant and ancestor of the Batswana (Tswana tribe) that led his people from the center of the earth to inhabit the world. The site was most likely created by the much older bushman tribes. The footprints there does not appear to be a natural footprint, rather one can find them as carved outlines of foot prints. The water in the waterholes are said to be used for tribal rituals and it can anticipated that these foot prints may be a part of some rituals conducted near these water holes or this can be as simple as some ancient carvings.

The site contains up to 117 engravings and three natural rock-holes[1] dating back between 3,000 to 10,000 years[2].
