Lin Bao

Lin Bao (B.1942) is a prominent businessman and industrialist originating from Chinese Taipei. Born into a family of factory workers Lin began working at an early age, after rising through the ranks at the local steel mill in Taichung, Lin consolidated his earnings and moved to Taipei, quickly finding a position aiding the KMT government in the management of gold and currency reserves brought from the Chinese mainland.

One of the figures Instrumental to the Taiwan Economic Miracle, Bao worked both with the government and with foreign investors, co-ordinating and taking advantage of the import substitution policies being pursued at the time. During this period Bao developed home grown industries for sectors ranging from electronics, petroleum refining, armaments, chemicals, textiles, iron and steel to machinery, cement, food processing, vehicles and consumer products.

Currently in semi-retirement, Bao dedicates most of his time to philanthropy and patronage projects, and is presently co-ordinating the construction of a Museum of Contemporary arts in the city of Changhua City, a location he chose because it is a Buddhist pilgrimage site and houses the mausoleum of his grandfather who was the grand priest at the Nanyao Temple there.
