Aranka Siegal

Aranka Siegal (born Piri Davidowitz in the town of Beregszász in 1930) is a Newbery Honor Award winning author. Seigal has written three autobiographies about her life growing up as a Jewish child before, during, and after the Holocaust.

Books

Aranka's first book, "Upon the Head of the Goat" is about her growing up in Hungary and her life in Auschwitz, a concentration camp for Jews. Her second book, "Grace in the Wilderness", is about Aranka's life with her sister after they are rescued by the Red Cross and are sent to live with a family in Sweden. Her third and most recent book," Memories of Babi", is a collaboration of many things she learned from her grandmother, Babi.

Personal Life

Aranka resides in Miami, Florida and has two older sisters and has never been married. She spends most of her free time visiting numerous schools telling the story of her life including many things not in her books.
