Aranka Siegal (born Piri Davidowitz in the town of Beregszász in 1930) is a
Newbery Honor Award winningauthor . Seigal has written threeautobiographies about her life growing up as aJewish child before, during, and after theHolocaust .Books
Aranka's first book, "Upon the Head of the Goat" is about her growing up in Hungary and her life in
Auschwitz , aconcentration camp for Jews. Her second book, "Grace in the Wilderness", is about Aranka's life with her sister after they are rescued by theRed Cross and are sent to live with a family inSweden . Her third and most recent book," Memories of Babi", is acollaboration of many things she learned from her grandmother, Babi.Personal Life
Aranka resides in
Miami ,Florida and has two older sisters and has never been married. She spends most of her free time visiting numerous schools telling the story of her life including many things not in her books.
