Sir Edward Thornton (October 22, 1766 - July 3, 1852) was a British diplomat, and father of Sir Edward Thornton (1817-1906).
Thornton served as British ambassador or minister plenipotentiary in various states, among them the United States (1800-1804), Sweden (1808, 1812-1817), and Portugal (1823-1824). [A. N.
