KHWA (also known as "KONA-FM") was originally awarded to a Maryland couple in FCC auction No. 67 at a frequency of (92.1 FM) is now a radio station in Keauhou, Hawaii serving the Kailua-Kona market; broadcasting Classic Rock Music, Blues, Reggea and Island Favorites. Its current owner planned to simulcast KHWA with its sister station KHWI on the east side of the island (in Hilo) then later decided to keep the stations separate. The station became an overnight success when long time Hawaiian radio personalities, jumped ship from other stations, to help lauch "KONA'FM". Those personalities include Kaiakina aka "the Polynesian Pirate", Lyman Medeiros and Brad "B-Free" Freeman. The station is currently owned by Parrott Broadcasting Limited Partnership. It is also sister to KHBC 1060 AM [ cite web|url=http://www.fcc.gov/fcc-bin/fmq?call=KHWI |title=KHWI Facility Record |work=United States Federal Communications Commission, audio division ]
