John Browett (UK businessman)

John Browett (* 1931) is a UK businessman who is currently CEO of the DSG Group which encompases brands including Currys, PC World and Dixons.

Browett was educated at Magdalene College, Cambridge University [ [http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/retailing/article3129147.ece Business big shot: John Browett] ] where he completed his degree in the field of Zoology.

Following his gradution Browett persued a role as a management consultant, which he followed with a role in the investment bank Kleinwort Benson.

Browett then followed these roles with an MBA from America’s Wharton business school, which costed him an estimated $100,000 over his duaration of study.

Career

Upon completition of his MBA Browett took a change in career and stepped into the retail sector joining the Supermarket Chain Tesco in 1998.Browett became a huge sucess within Tesco, landing him the role of Chief executive of online operations where he drove revenues up to £1.2billionbefore resigning to become CEO of DSG. The resignation it is claimed was taken with great anger and Browett was forced to fulfil the 6 month notice periodoutlined within his employment contract before starting the DSG CEO role in December 2008.

Browett's management style is claimed to be uniquie, with him forgeing a relationship with journalists and providing his personal mobile number to enable directcontact whenever required.
