Gil Green (politician)

Gil Green (1906 – 1997) was a prominent figure in the Communist Party of the United States of America until 1991. He was national secretary of the Young Communist League, and twice leader of the party in the state of New York. He was convicted under the Smith Act in 1949 and served a prison sentence from 1956 to 1961. In 1991, he left the party and founded the Committees of Correspondence for Democracy and Socialism.
