Acharya Kalelkar

Acharya Kalelkar

Acharya Kakasaheb Kalelkar was a Gandhian leader and an Indian independence activist. He was also an educationist and journalist. He was a member of the Sabarmati Ashram and played a key role in setting up the Gujarat Vidyapith at Ahmedabad. He was its Vice Chancellor.

In 1930 he was Gandhi's only companion in the Yeravda Jail, Poona.

He was awarded Padma Vibhushan in 1964. He was a member of the Rajya Sabha for 12 years. He died in 1981.
