The station went on the air as
WPKX-FM on1981-12-09 . February 29 ,2008 ,Citadel Broadcasting changed the format of WJZW to oldies and moved the former "smooth jazz" format to the HD-2 channel. CBS Radio began running ads on its stations in the Washington, DC area promoting streaming audio from its smooth jazz stationKTWV in Los Angeles, California.Fact|date=March 2008.
