- Jorge Mester
Jorge Mester (born
April 10 ,1935 ,Mexico City ) is a Mexican-American conductor and violinist of Hungarian descent. He studied conducting withJean Morel at theJulliard School inNew York and work withLeonard Bernstein at theBerkshire Music Center and withAlbert Wolff . In1955 he made his debut in theNational Symphony Orchestra of Mexico and in1960 made his opera debut withSalome at theSpoleto Festival inItaly . He conducted theBoston Symphony ,Detroit Symphony , and theRoyal Philharmonic Orchestra . He became music director of theLouisville Orchestra in1967 . From 1969 to 1990 he was music director of theAspen Festival and was appointed music director of thePasadena Symphony Orchestra in1983 and in1998 music director of theMexico City Philharmonic Orchestra . He also was director of Julliard´s conducting department and conducted concerts and operas in theThompton School of Music .He resides in Southern California.ources
