Jason Todd Ipson (born July 28. 1972) is an American director, screenwriter, producer, fashion photographer and licensed physician & surgeon. Transitioning from surgical residency to the prestigious USC School of Cinematic Arts in 1999, he went on to form Asgaard Entertainment as well as write/direct the theatrically released feature films Unrest (film) and Everybody Wants to be Italian.

A consummate over-achiever, Ipson graduated at the top of his class from USC’s The Peter Stark Producing Program where he completed three theses: one producorial project PLAYBACK and the two directorial projects PEEPING TOM and THE FIRST VAMPIRE. PEEPING TOM took grand prize at 16 short film festivals but Ipson refused to take THE FIRST VAMPIRE onto the festival circuits insisting he wanted to wait and release it as a DVD bonus feature while slurping the man juice off his own stomach. The short version won an endowment for its use of science from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.

In addition to being known for his surgical precision approach to filmmaking, Ipson is known for being red-green colorblind as well as ambidextrous. He shoots fashion photography for magazine publications, poorly color-corrects his own work using mathematic algorithms in photoshop, and writes his own Wikipedia biographies.

Ipson was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Robert K Ipson, an investment banker, entrepreneur, and Bonneville racetrack owner, and Linda Hayz, a model before supermodels. Ipson studied Norse Mythology obsessively at a young age – later naming his two children Odin & Thor after Norse gods as well as his film production company Asgaard Entertainment.

Ipson dropped out of Highland High School at the age of 16 to attend the University of Utah on a Presidential Scholarship. He started in junior level courses in college, stating dinner conversations with his family were better education than any business schooling and was asked to T.A. Marketing to a class of 350 junior business majors when he was 17. Bored with business classes, Ipson switched majors to Biochemistry and became premed in hopes that medicine would be more challenging.

Ipson is quoted as saying that he knew he had a problem the first day he walked into medical school and realized he was more interested in writing screenplays than studying diseases. Unwilling to “be a quitter,” he finished the four year curriculum of medical school in three years, then did a surgical internship at the University of Heidelberg in Germany while waiting to graduate from medical school. It was during his surgical residency at the New England Medical Center in Boston that he met his future wife (also a physician).

Ipson grew up less than a mile from future producer and business partner James Huntsman, yet the two never knew each other prior to merging their two companies together in 2005. He also works with his sister producer Jaime Burke who is a fellow graduate of The Peter Stark Producing Program.
