Reginald Yates is an American Dancer,Choreographer,and Educator. He has had extensive affiliations with the prestigious organizations of Alvin Ailey,the Juilliard School,The New World School for the Arts,the National Dance Company of Ghana,Katherine Dunham and as a Cultural Assistant to the United States Embassy in Ghana West Africa among others.He has participated in significant collaborations at the festivals of Jacob's Pillow and consecutive appearances at Lincoln Center in New York. In 1998 he was comissioned by Judith Jamison, Artistic Director of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater to choreograph their 40th Anniversary. He also directed the historic visit of Judith Jamison to Ghana West Africa where she was honored as a Queen Mother.In 2002 He conceived and directed a special tribute to Katherine Dunham at Jacob's Pillow featuring legendary performers Harry Belafonte, Julie Belafonte,noted actor Danny Glover, Ailey II, Donald Mckayle, Gelan Lambert, Ronald K. Brown/Evidence,former Dunham dancer Walter Nicks and numerous indegenous dancers and drummers from Ghana and Guinea. As an affliate of Jacob's Pillow education series, he is a two time Director of the Cultural Traditions Program. Commisions for his work include the Sarasota Ballet,Lincoln Center Out-of-Doors,the Orlando Ballet,the Orlando Opera,the 92nd St Y (New York),Barnard College/Columbia University, and world primieres for the Juilliard School and the Ailey School.A highly regarded dance educator, he has spearheaded a number of initiatives throughout the world to enhance the lives of communities and individuals on the importance of the arts.In 2004 he acted as Dance Chair for the Trienniel Conference on African Art at Harvard University. An award winning artist, he is a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Fellow,a Senior Fulbright Scholar,a recipient of the Nancy Smith Award named for dance pioneer Dr. Nancy Smith Ficther, a multiple Fellow at the colony of Yaddo and the Florida Division of Cultural Affairs.
