Tsaritsyno (Metro)

Tsaritsyno (Metro)

Tsaritsyno ( _ru. Царицыно) is a station on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line of the Moscow Metro. It is named after the Tsaritsyno District and the nearby Tsaritsyno Park, which was once an estate belonging to Catherine the Great. Tsaritsyno was originally opened on December 30, 1984, but was closed on the next day until February 9, 1985 due to flooding. The station was known as Lenino until 1990. The entrance is located at the intersection of Proletarsky Prospekt and Kaspiyskaya Street.

Design

The station has white marble pillars and walls inlaid with patterns of red, brown, grey and yellow marble and mosaics depicting the achievements of Russian science. A mosaic by A.N. Kuznetsov above the entrance stairs depicts the Moscow skyline. The architects of the station were V.A. Cheremin and A.L. Vigdorov.
