Merqati was born in 1949 in Tabriz. Till his 5th years old he lived in Maku, Saqqiz, and Miyandab. Then the family immigrated to Tabriz. In his first paces, the father showed Naser's scripts to Shayryar upstairs and he admired his nice script. In 1959 the father died and left the family alone with shelves of books and his poems. He read Guy de Maupassant, Tolstoy, Somerset Maugham, and 1001 nights tales. In his 12 a teacher valued his readings and short poems. Then he joined the circle of Samad Behrangi and Alireza nabdel. After completing primary and secondary school in Tabriz, he entered Tabriz University in 1969. His firs poetic works collection was burned out by a friend when he was arrested by security police for his social activities. He got married in 1970 and they found 2 daughters and a son.He started to critical reviewing of Azerbaijani literary works and as the editorial of Azeri Turkish part of a some local newspapers started to publish his critical, satiric, and poetic works. In 1998 his collection of poems "Talanmish Gunash" (Plundered Sun) has been published. Merqati is not well known in contemporary literary circles in Azerbaijan. His poems, however, reveal his familiarity with world literature. His knowledge of mythological studies, in particular, gives to his poetry broad international and cultural aspects. A collection of Merqati's poems, "Talanmış Günäş" (The plundered sun) is being readied for publication. Without a doubt, Merqati is an example of "sensitizing agents" of his time because, relying on his treasure of lofty ideals and concepts of the elite, he portrays best the events of his society [2] . Now he lives in Berlin and administers a Web site named www.yazi.blogsky.com that publishes verse and prose works in Azeri Turkish and Persian [1] .A translation of one of his works into English can be found in the link given as reference [2] below. He is among recognized Azeri Turkish contemporary poets enlisted in reference [3] .
