February 21 ,1960 inMatosinhos - diedAugust 10 ,1990 inOporto ) was a Portuguese footballgoalkeeper who playedthe greatest part of his career atFC Porto He was the team goalkeeper when they reached the Uefa Cup Winners Cup in 1984. FC Porto lost 2-1 againstJuventus with some very controversial decisions by the referee against FC Porto. Losing his temper Zé Beto took the flag out of the hand of the assistant referee and hit him with it causing him to be suspended from UEFA competitions for two years. He was also the replacement goalkeeper of the team that won the European Champions Cup in 1987. He died in an unfortunate car crash in 1990 still a young man with very much to give to life and football.He was capped a number of times for the
Portugal national football team .
