Anglican Diocese of Mashonaland

The Anglican Diocese of Mashonaland was formed in 1891 [The Times, Wednesday, Nov 04, 1891; pg. 4; Issue 33473; col E The SPCK has given £1,000 to aid a new Rhodesian diocese] and its first Bishop was The Rt Rev "George Knight-Bruce" [ [http://www.barbaragoss.net/rhodesiantapestry/sinoia.html Details of his life] ] . In 1915 the diocese became “The Diocese of Southern Rhodesia” [Pamela J. Welch (2005) ‘Church and Settler: A Study in the History of the Anglican Diocese of Mashonaland/Southern Rhodesia, 1890-1925’, London, University of London 2005 ISBN. 9781841923796] until 1952 when it reverted to “The Diocese of Mashonaland". Now known as the “Diocese of Harare and Mashonaland” it has experienced great turbulence in recent times [ [http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/zimbabwe/1497017/Trial-of-Harare-bishop-collapses-in-farce.html Recent turmoil] ]
