Mabel Spanton was born in
Hanley ,Staffordshire on 1st December 1874 the daughter ofDr. William Dunnet Spanton , F.R.C.S. ["Who's Who in Art" (Third Edition, 1934)] She studied art atHanley School of Art under J.S.Cartlidge, and also inNewlyn ,Cornwall underStanhope Forbes , R.A. ["Who's Who in Art" (Third Edition, 1934)] Mabel was elected as a member of the prestigiousBritish Watercolour Society in 1927.
