Inheritance of Hope was established as a
non-profit organization in May 2007 and gained approval as a501(c)3 charity in December 2007. The organization's mission is to increase the well-being and to help overcome despair in the lives of children and families with a parent diagnosed with aterminal illness . Furthermore, Inheritance of Hope believes that preparing for the death of a parent while they are living will yield significant long-term benefits for children and loved ones, thereby minimizing the potentially catastrophic impact. Inheritance of Hope is a faith-based organization – welcoming families of all faiths and backgrounds while serving under the core-beliefs of the Christian faith.

"A Train’s Rust, A Toy Maker’s Love" is a children’s book illustrated by Devonne Cooper and written by Kristen Milligan, a terminally ill parent who desires to share the joy of God’s love in challenging times while opening a dialogue about death and dying. The book tells the story of a train family whose mother begins to rust, prompting questions to the toy maker about what will happen next.
