Olympic Records In Athletics
- Olympic Records In Athletics
Olympic Records in Athletics can only be set during the Olympic Games held every four years and, as such, often lag behind World Records which can be set at any time.
Men's Events
Listed below are the current Olympic Records for men's events in athletics. The longest lasting record is Bob Beamon's long jump of 8.90m set in 1968. As a world record it stood until 1991, it is still to be beaten in Olympic competition. The WR column on the table below indicates that the record is also a current World Record.
Women's Events
Listed below are the current Olympic Records for women's events in athletics. The Olympic athletic programme for women has steadily been expanded over recent Games to include almost all the events already contested by male athletes. The most recent addition to the women's programme was the 3000m steeplechase, first run at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
The WR column on the table below indicates that the record is also a current World Record.
