Tingatinga

BASEPAGENAME is an administrative ward in the Monduli district of the Arusha Region of Tanzania. According to the 2002 census, the ward has a total population of 4,811. Tingatinga painting style

Tingatinga also refers to the painting style first started by the artist Eduardo Tingatinga in the late 1960s in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Tingatinga trained a few members of his family in the painting style and they carried on the style after his death in 1972. They in turn trained their own apprentices and many painters currently paint in this style. The painters have formed CTAPS - The Craft and Tingatinga Arts Promotion Society at the Morogoro Stores in Dar es Salaam.
