Bernhard VI, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg

Bernhard VI, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg (d. 2 February 1468), was a German prince member of the House of Ascania and ruler of the Principality of Anhalt-Bernburg.

He was the eldest son of Otto III, Prince of Anhalt-Bernburg by his first unknown wife.

Life

He succeded his cousin Bernhard V in the principality of Anhalt-Bernburg when he died in 1420, after being bypassed sixteen years ago by him and his own younger brother Otto IV. With his Princely title, he also hold the style of "Lord of Bernburg".

Marriage and Issue

In 21 October 1419 Bernhard married firstly with Matilda (d. 1432), daughter of Protze of Querfurt-Burgscheidungen. They had two children:
#Otto (d. 1437).
#Matilda (d. 1443), married with Sigismund II, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau.

In 11 March 1434 Bernhard married secondly with Hedwig (d. Bernburg, 14 May 1497), daughter of John I, Duke of Sagan. This union was childless.

His only son predeceased him and, as the last male of his house, with him the first branch of Anhalt-Bernburg became extinct. His kinsman George I, Prince of Anhalt-Dessau inherited his lands.
