"Re-Education (Through Labor)" is the first single from Rise Against's upcoming fifth studio album, "Appeal to Reason". The single was released digitally to iTunes and other digital stores on August 19, and director Kevin Kerslake shot a music video for it. This song is supposedly about all of the human rights abuses, christian fascist conservative fundementalism, and capitalist labor violations occurring in modern day America.Fact|date=August 2008

A limited physical version of the single will be released on 7" vinyl and can be obtained exclusively by pre-ordering "Appeal to Reason". This version also includes a b-side titled "Minor Threat", which is a cover of the defunct hardcore punk band with the same title. The single's fifth week on Billboard's Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart turned "Re-Education (Through Labor)" into Rise Against's highest charting single to date, hitting number 5, making it the band's first Top 5 single. The single then reached number 4 the following week. The title was previously held by "The Good Left Undone", the third single from their 2006 classic "The Sufferer & the Witness", which peaked at number 6.

Music Video

On September 22, 2008, Rise Against released the video for Re-Education. The video begins with a quote from JFK, "Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable." It depicts the band playing in what appears to be an underground bunker and an army of a moped riders. In the video, the mopeds ride around Chicago and drop backpacks in various locations. The closing scene shows the row of moped riders watching the city explode in the night.
