Dunaway had no amateur background before she turned professional. She became interested in boxing by watching other female boxers training at the World Class Fitness Center in Fort Smith, and thinking that it "looked like fun."She made her boxing debut at on
February 4 ,2003 at New Daisy Theater inMemphis, Tennessee , losing to Melissa Shaffer by a TKO in the second round. After losing 2 of her first 3 professional bouts, Dunaway turned things around, winning 13 of her next 14 fights, and avenging the one loss from those 14 fights. OnDecember 16 ,2004 in Doraville, Georgia, Dunaway (98 lb) won the WIBA Minimumweight world title with a ten-round unanimous (98-92 98-92 97-95) decision over Terri Moss (102 lb) of Atlanta, Georgia. OnApril 16 ,2005 inMagdeburg ,Germany ,Regina Halmich won a ten-round unanimous decision over Dunaway, defending her WIBF Flyweight Title. Halmich moved her record to 46-1-1 (15 KOs).As of July 2005, Dunaway's professional boxing record is 14-4-0 (9 KOs). On
February 16 ,2006 , Hollie successfully defended her WIBA Minimumweight Title against Melissa Shaffer in a rematch in Kansas City, MO. Hollie won a unanimous decision (100-90, 99-91, 99-91). Hollie's record is now 15-5-0 (9 KOs).Dunaway has been living and training in St. Louis. Dunaway has been seen on the arm of local bon vivant Todd Furesz. Furesz is known in St. Louis social circles for his charity work and has been romantically linked in the past with former Miss USA and Miss Missouri Shandi Finnessey.
