The Big Dam Film Festival is an annual event organized by Young Professionals of the Quincy Area, a Non-Profit Networking and Community Development organization in Quincy, IL. The festival features independent films from around the world in a showcase format usually held on a Saturday evening in the spring.

All proceeds from the event are used to organize and support events and endeavors throughout the community of Quincy, Illinois.

Origins

The Big Dam Film Festival is the brain child of Clinton Begley and Christopher Mackenzie both natives of Quincy and members of the Young Professionals Quincy board.

The festival is named after Lock_and_dam #21 on the Mississippi river which is a local icon and source of revenue for the city.

The inaugural event occurred in February of 2006 and featured 23 films selected from over 80 total films that were submitted for selection. A short video introduction by Ed Begley Jr kicked off the event.

Since it's inception, each event has sold out well in advance and has been subject to rave reviews and praise.
