The band's official website www.acdc.com has released the video online.The audience at the video shoot claim that they were asked to jump up and down and have their hands raised during the chorus. Although they were originally told to sing the lyric "running, running, running right off the tracks", Brian corrected them and stated that there is just one "running".
The video set had cogs turning, CO2 dispensed and some pyrotechnic displays.
On August 27, close to midnight, the single was uploaded to AC/DC's official website and AC/DC's MySpace. It made its worldwide radio debut on the 28th August at 17:00 New Zealand time on The Rock radio station. Many Australian stations played the song straight after their 4:00pm news services. The song later made its way onto
classic rock radio stations Planet Rock,Virgin Radio Classic Rock ,Radio Caroline ,radio2XS andRock Radio in the UK, with Planet Rock presenter Mark Jeeves even playing the song twice in a row. The Song made its Canadian Debut on August 28th at 12:09am onCKQB-FM in Ottawa. Played twice in a row at first then every half an hour by announcer Kornbread. He racked up 12 plays of the song before any other station in Canada played it once. Rock 'n Roll Train debuted at #1 on the Canadian rock chart for the week ending September 5, 2008.On August 30th, the first Saturday of the U.S. college football season, the song was played extensively on
ESPN and ABC college football broadcasts as intro and bumper music, along with other AC/DC song'sThunderstruck andFor Those About to Rock (We Salute You) . It was also played on a promo forCBS 's "Criminal Minds ". It is currently #2 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Charts.
