Grupo de Usuarios GNU/Linux en Nicaragua

GUL-NIC stands for "Grupo de usuarios de GNU/Linux en Nicaragua" (Nicaraguan Linux User Group). The GUL-NIC is a non-profit organization whose goal is to provide information about the GNU/Linux OS to the local community. It also promotes linux-related activities and sometimes acts as a Linux representative in computer related events and conferences.

History

The group was started in 2007 but its roots can be traced back to 1995 with the creation of NicaLUG, the first Nicaraguan Linux User Group.

One of the biggest achievements in the short life of GUL-NIC was winning the award for the best event worldwide in the SFD 2007 competition [ [http://softwarefreedomday.org/Competition2007/Winners#head-d3d0c0cb65d1b322f499dd916f07db8dfee887cf SFD 2007 list of winners] ] .

As of August 2008, GUL-NIC has around 500 people subscribed to the local communities of Ubuntu, Debian, openSuse and Fedora.

Activities
