Formation and Early Releases (1989-1992)
In 1989, Toby Wulff, Roy Stewart, and Mark Davis formed the band, originally called Corpsegrinder. They released their first demo, "Into The Oven", in 1991, by that time under the name Embalmer. This was their only release under the label Horribly Hacked Productions. During this time "Into The Oven" was noticed by
Relapse Records , and they began to distribute the demo through their label. The demo sales would eventually lead to the signing of Embalmer's first album with Relapse. After this release, the band unerwent many lineup changes, and sometime in 1992 recorded a live demo, "Taxidermist", releasing only 20-30 copies. Shortly afterward Duane left to play for Incantation.Rotting Remains to Hiatus (1993-1997)
In 1993 they independently released the demo "Rotting Remains", with Roy and Mark of the original group, and Rick Fleming, Brian Holmberg, and Jocko Jermann joining them. In 1994 Brian left, to be replaced by Dave Phillips, and in 1995 released the EP "There Was Blood Everywhere" on 7" vinyl under
Relapse Records , containing four tracks. Two years later they released a compilation album under the same name, which essentially just rereleased "Rotting Remains" and "There Was Blood Everywhere" on one album. Shortly following, they went on hiatus, and would not return for eight years.Rebirth and New Album (2005-2007)
After a very long break which many (including the band) thought was the end of Embalmer, the band got back together in 2005 and immediately began work on new material. The band at this point consisted of Roy, Rick, Mark, Jocko and newcomer Rob Lesniak (a former member of
Chimaira ). In early 2006, progress on songwriting had slowed down nearly to a stop, which changed after both Mark and Jocko left the band, leading to Don Wolff joining the band, and eventually the return of Duane (who would ultimately become the last member from the original group). In 2007 they played several shows alongside fairly notable bands of their genre. [http://www.last.fm/music/Embalmer/+events/2007] Soon they were in the studio, recording 13 Faces Of Death, which would be released on Friday,October 13th of2006 , under the labelPathos Productions . It would be their first full-length album. CD Baby said 13 Faces Of Death is "guaranteed to peel back your face". [http://cdbaby.com/cd/embalmer]Recent Events (2007-Present)
With many members leaving and others returning, the band would be left with only Rick, Rob, Duane, and Tim Powell on drums (who was eventually kicked out after Duane beat him up). They began writing a demo set for release in the Spring of 2008. However, due to what Rick described as "much blood spilt, the lack of devotion, and other stupidity", they would end up on hiatus, which only lasted a few weeks before another blog was posted on their profile saying they were making amends, and had a full lineup ready to release The Apocolyptic Bloodshower sometime in 2009.
