Robert Christopher

Robert Christopher

Robert Christopher first encountered Japan, then in ruins, as a member of the occupation forces that landed in Japan in September 1945 just a few days after Douglas MacArthur accepted the surrender of the imperial Japanese government on the battleship "Missouri". Since then he returned frequently as a journalist and author, witnessing Japan's miraculous reconstruction and the accompanying political and social change. Christopher was a senior editor and executive editor at "Newsweek", the originator and first editor of "Newsweek International", and managing editor of GEO Magazine. Since 1981 he has been administrator of the Pulitzer Prizes and lecturer at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. Christopher is a graduate of Yale University and the author of "The Japanese Mind: The Goliath Explained", published in 1983.
