How to Start Your Own Country (book)

How to Start Your Own Country ISBN 1-893626-15-6 is a book about micronations and new country projects by Erwin S Strauss, originally published by Loompanics in 1985.

It is generally considered to be the first attempt at documenting micronations as a global phenomenon.

The book was republished in a revised and extended Chinese-language version in July 2008 by Taipei, Taiwan-based publisher Editions du Flaneur. The Chinese-language title of the book translates as: "Microcountries: A Simple Operation Manual for the Founding of Independent States", although the accompanying English-language title mirrors that of the first edition.

The new edition includes numerous insertions as well as a 100-page illustrated addendum entitled "10 Classic Country-Building Stories". This explores the development of micronations which were not in existence, or about which Strauss was not aware, when the original book was published, including: Lovely, Atlantium, Molossia, Caux, Elleore, Seborga, Conch Republic, Christiania, Sabotage and Citynoland.
