Don Brown (American football)

Don Albert Brown (b. Aug 20, 1937) was an American League Football player from 1959-1961. He was born in Dayton, Texas and played high school football for the Dayton Bronchos from 1953-1955. He played running back and defensive end for the University of Houston from 1956-1958, earning All American honors (honorable mention) during his senior year. His first professional game was playing for the College All-stars in 1959 who played the defending NFL champs, the Baltimore Colts in a pre-season game. During this game, he was involved in a serious collision with Bill Pellington which left him unconscious for several minutes.

He was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams, but immediately traded for Ollie Matson of the Chicago Cardinals. This trade was significant, as he was one of 9 players traded for Matson. After the Cardinals, he had a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers before returning home to try out for the newly formed Houston Oilers, where he ended his professional career in 1961.
