Hiemenga Hall

Hiemenga Hall

The Spoelhof Center is a part the Calvin College campus in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The Center was named after president John Hiemenga. The building broke ground in November of 1961, and is one of the oldest parts of the Knollcrest campus [http://www.calvin.edu/publications/spark/2006/fall/knollcrest.htm "50 Candles for Knollcrest", Spark Magazine, Fall 2006] ] . Hiemenga Hall hosts several departments, such as Classics, Philosophy, Religion, modern languages (Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Korean, Spanish, Japanesse), and history departments [http://www.calvin.edu/map/hiemenga Hiemenga Hall, Calvin College] ] . It, like the rest of the original buildings on campus, was built in the Prairie Style and its gentle stepped slope attempts to match the surrounding hills . The building is connected to the Chapel and Spoelhof Center by a tunnel system.
