Hughes Hall College Boat Club

Hughes Hall College Boat Club

Hughes Hall College Boat Club is the rowing club for members of Hughes Hall, Cambridge.

Hughes Hall Boat Club has enjoyed considerable success in recent years. The women moved up from 3rd to 2nd division in Lent Bumps this year and won blades in May Bumps. The women also won the Clare novice regatta plate in 2007, and got through the trial stage at Henley Women's Regatta in 2008. In the 2007 May Bumps, both the Men's and Women's crews won blades in their respective divisions. By doing so, the Boat Club also won the 2nd Pegasus Cup, awarded annually to the most successful boat club in Cambridge. The women also won blades in 2005.

The achievements of the boat club is even more significant considering the fact that Hughes Hall admits many students on one-year degrees. As such, the boat club trains many novices each year, and top performers are often given opportunities in the first VIII. The Boat Club houses its four rowing shells in the Emmanuel Boathouse. The women's crew is organised jointly with Lucy Cavendish Boat Club, the boat club for Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge.

Bumps Progress

Hughes Hall College Boat Club has been shining with the victory of 13 blades including one won by the ladies in May Bumps 2008. The men and women both won blades in May Bumps 2007 and the ladies also received a blade in May Bumps 2005. A record in the rowing charts for the men in Mays 2004 with a promotion of 9 positions. The blades displayed in our bar are trophies awarded to the men and women of our club for their successful endeavours, which reflects the generous investment College has made on us since the boat club was founded.
