Frankfurt Airport Fernbahnhof ("Frankfurt Airport long distance railway station") is a
railway station inFrankfurt ,Germany that connectsFrankfurt International Airport to trains, most of them ICE services following theCologne-Frankfurt high-speed rail line .The station was opened in 1999. It measures 660 metres in length and 45 metres in height. It features a large dome containing a
lounge area and a ticket hall, and is connected to the airport by a skyway that crosses the A 3. A four-star hotel with convention center ( [http://www.airrail.de/en.html AirRail-Center Frankfurt] ) will be built above the station.This long distance station should not be confused with
Frankfurt (Main) Flughafen Regionalbahnhof (translates from German as "Frankfurt Airport Regional station", which is located beneath Terminal 1 of the airport and which provides localS-Bahn services to Frankfurt Central Station andWiesbaden /Mainz .Operational usage
As a special courtesy,
Lufthansa allows its passengers to check in atKöln Hauptbahnhof andStuttgart Hauptbahnhof . This scheme is known asAiRail Service . Trains operating under that scheme have a separate LH number associated with them.
Another service are Lufthansa check-in counters within the bridge connecting the railstation with the Terminal.
