- Jussi Jalas
Jussi Jalas ("né" Blomstedt, June 23, 1908 – October 11, 1985) was an accomplished Finnish
conductor . His father was the architect Yrjö Blomstedt, and his wife, Margareta, was the daughter ofJean Sibelius .Jalas was the music director of the
Finnish National Opera , and he taught at theSibelius Academy from 1945 to 1965.Recordings
His discography includes a complete recording of
Leevi Madetoja 's opera, "Juha", withJorma Hynninen , as well as, for Westminster,Norman Treigle 's two recital albums, "Arias from Italian, French and German Opera" (1967) and "Operatic Heroes and Villains" (1968).For the same label, he conducted
Beverly Sills ' first recital album, "Bellini and Donizetti Heroines" (1968). Among his "pirated" recordings is that of a 1971 Helsinski concert featuringAnja Silja in excerpts from "Götterdämmerung" and "Tristan und Isolde".Reference
