Wind Turbine Syndrome

Wind Turbine Syndrome

Wind Turbine Syndrome is the term for a clinical phenomenon first coined by Dr. Nina Pierpont. According to her research, some people, when living in close proximity to industrial wind turbines, are affected by low-frequency vibrations emanating from the turbine.

ymptoms

According to Dr. Pierpont's research, any or all of the following symptoms can occur when a person lives too closely to a wind turbine.

# Sleep problems: noise or physical sensations of pulsation or pressure make it hard to go to sleep and cause frequent awakening.
# Headaches which are increased in frequency or severity.
# Dizziness, unsteadiness, and nausea.
# Exhaustion, anxiety, anger, irritability, and depression.
# Problems with concentration and learning.
# Tinnitus (ringing in the ears). [cite news |author=Richard Cockle |title=Wind whips up health fears |url= |publisher=The Oregonian |date=August 10, 2008 |accessdate=2008-10-10]

Cases

British physician Amanda Harry, in a February 2007 article titled "Wind Turbines, Noise and Health" [cite web | title = Wind Turbines, Noise and Health | author = Amanda Harry | url = http://www.wind-watch.org/documents/wp-content/uploads/wtnoise_health_2007_a_harry.pdf | accessdate = 2008-08-17 | date = Feb 2007 ] , wrote of 39 people, including residents of New Zealand and Australia, who suffered from the sounds emitted by wind turbines. According to Pierpont, eight of the 10 families in her study moved out of their homes.
