FictionBook2

FictionBook2

FictionBook is a format for electronic versions of books in XML documents. The standard is designed to ensure compatibility with any devices and formats. XML makes it easy to create documents ready for immediate use and processing software (conversion, storage, management) in any environment. The documents usually have metadata that may contain structural partitioning the main elements of text, a number of book information, and may also contain attachments with binary files, which can be stored or cover illustration. The standard was developed by a group of developers headed by Dmitry Gribov and Mikhail Matsnev on [http://www.epaper.ru/WorkShop.php?Id=25 initiative] by Mark Lipsman.

Applications

Properly prepared electronic text format FictionBook embodies all the necessary information about the book - structured text, illustrations, information about the author and publishing, but does not contain information about the appearance of the document. How will look text, obtained from the format, or depends on the settings-browser program this format, either on the parameters defined in the file conversion to other formats.

For example, in the text of the document, FictionBook2 contains phrases designed as titles. The program, which will open the file, depending on configuration can make them, unlike the rest of the text, or large print or another color, or otherwise. Thus, when converting the format of HTML, each title can be compared with an HTML tag.

The document includes information about the book in the form suitable for automated processing. For example, in an electronic library, are book formats. This book can be automatically placed in a section of the author of the book, a book title and abstract can automatically display in the column of news library. Thus, it is much easier process space in new library books. Some libraries have moved to electronic format in FictionBook2 completely, and do not take books produced in other formats. But on the pages of these libraries can download the same book in the form of files of other formats (plain text, RTF and HTML), derived from FictionBook2 by automatic conversion.
