Hussain Rasheed Ahmed

Hussain Rasheed Ahmed is the first and current president of Adhaalath Party (Justice Party), an opposition political party in the Republic of the Maldives.

Sheikh Rasheed is a famous Islamic scholar in the Maldives who has been active in the Politics of the Maldives after his party was registered as an official opposition party in August 2005 under the government's program establishing a multi-party system in the Maldives.

His party, Adhlaalath Party (Justice Party) is well known for its sunni Islamic religious lectures in the Maldives.

Recently he is well known for his recent challenge to Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party party's Chairman, the current president of the Maldives, Maumoon Abdul Gayyoom. The Chairman, in a speech in one of the Party meetings said that:

# The decent of Jesus in the End times, is a Myth and a false concept.
# Veiling of woman is not compulsory in Islam, and is not required.
# Growing of beards by men is only an Arabic tradition and is not ‘Islamic’.
# Shaking hands with anonymous women is not prohibited in Islam.

However Sheikh Rasheed Challanged that the relegious scholars in his party is ready to prove that the beliefs of the Chairman is ridiculous, only if the Chairman agrees to hold a religious debate with him that would be broadcasted live in the National Radio and Television. Soon after the Chairman of the Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party and the President of the Maldives refused to have a religious debate with him and said that he and his party do not will to conduct a religious debate with Justice Party to achieve political success.

He has been criticized by Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party and other Maldivians that he promotes Islamic Fundamentalism in the Maldives.
