Ameresco Inc. is one of many ESCO's, an acronym for Energy Service Company. These companies base their businesses around providing clean, renewable energy for various institutions. ESCO's such as Ameresco began emerging across the United States in light of the recent scare of Global Warming, the energy crisis of the late 1970's, and the ongoing issue of America's dependency on fossil fuels. According to their website, they are the largest independent energy services company in North America. ["Ameresco: High Energy" [http://www.usitoday.com/article_view.asp?ArticleID=1662] ] Like other ESCO's, this company focuses on providing efficient, sustainable, and cleaner energy solutions to companies, government, and educational institutions.

ESCO companies such as Ameresco offer a broad range of comprehensive energy solutions including energy conservation, energy infrastructure outsourcing, power generation and energy supply, and risk management. Essentially, they help businesses and other institutions re-build their property to be more eco-friendly and energy efficient.

Many successful projects have resulted from the rise of ESCO companies. For instance, Ameresco in particular is responsible for many successful energy projects in the government, healthcare, public, and education sectors. [“Ameresco, Inc.
