Grandmaster Yun Dukan was raised in what is now known as
South Korea , and is a survivor of both the Japanese occupation of Korea and theKorean War . His childhood education included training in the martial art ofMoo Duk Kwan under the masterOh Sae Joon . He subsequently won the national championships in Korea twice, and gained the attention of GrandmasterSang Kyu Shim , who asked him to assist in the teaching of the 1st and 2nd battalions of the Republic of Koreamarines ; Yun Dukan also taught the 1st Calvary division of theUnited States Army in Munsan, Korea. It was during this period that Master Shim introduced him toGeneral Choi Hong Hi , from him Yun learned Taekowndo along with the MastersCha Soo Young ,Moon Ku Baek , andJung Joong Sun .Yun Dukan later joined the Oh Do Kwan in
Seoul , where he trained with MasterE Jhoon Chang . There he began to learn and teach theInternational Taekwondo Federation (ITF) style of Taekwondo. In 1968, Master Yun, with the encouragement of both General Choi and Master Shim, came to Manitowoc, Wisconsin and began teaching Taekwondo at the ManitowocYoung Men's Christian Association as part of the ITF's effort to bring the martial art to the Americas. In 1970, Yun moved toMilwaukee ,Wisconsin , and established the first Taekwondo school in the city. In 1971 Master Yun's school was visited byGeneral Choi Hong Hi and MasterNam Tae Hi , who taught at the first of many seminars that they were to host.
