nihongo|Tomiji Koyanagi|小柳 富次|Koyanagi Tomiji|extra= July 16 1893 - August 6 1978, was an admiral in the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. He commanded the battleship "Kongo" at the beginning of the war. Later, Koyanagi commanded Destroyer Squadron 10 during the Guadalcanal Campaign. He was appointed Chief of Staff of the 2nd Fleet under Takeo Kurita in July 1943. Koyanagi was severely wounded during the Battle of Leyte Gulf when the cruiser "Atago" upon which he was stationed was sunk by the US submarine "Darter". Surviving the war, Koyanagi died in 1978.
