Sister2Sister are multi-platinum selling singers, songwriters and television presenters who also happen to be sisters in real life.

Background

The Muscat sisters, Christine (b. February 27, 1981) and Sharon (b. August 23, 1984) (to Maltese immigrants), are the act that make up Sister2Sister. Their career started very young when they grew up in the Sydney suburb of St. Clair, where they attended Holy Spirit Primary school and later Emmaus Catholic College in nearby Erskine Park.

Growing up in a very musical family, it was during those early years that the two developed a love for music. However, they also had a knack for acting, which resulted in both of them television presenting and landing roles in TV commercials and soap operas.

Their Musical Career

At the ages of 9 and 13, Christine and Sharon joined Brent Street Studios to also study dancing. Soon after joining the school, the girls were invited to join the Brent St Kids performance troupe and began singing and dancing all over Sydney. It was through this exposure that they attracted the attention of a celebrity who saw their performance at the Variety Club Heart Awards. Her name was Tina Arena, who in turn mentioned the girls to her now former manager/husband. He later signed them to his management company and new record label in 1997. After relocating to Melbourne to write their first album the name Sister2Sister was born. It was at this time Sharon also studied at the Victorian College of Arts.

Chart History

In October 1999 their first single "Sister" was a seemingly overnight success. By December 1999 it would break into the top five of ARIA Pop music chart, Peaking at #3 and achieving double platinum status. Their follow-up, "What's a Girl to Do" would debut at #10 on January 31 2000 and achieve platinum status, and go top five a week later. Their debut album, "One" would debut at #3 on ARIA's album chart in February 2000 and achieve gold status in just its first week of sales.

uccess overseas

The surprising success of Sister2Sister and their singles would also translate into success overseas, especially in the United Kingdom and in the United States, the latter where they landed a deal with Sony BMG Music Entertainment/Columbia Records and joined a national tour of young Pop music acts that were being sponsored (separately) by Nickelodeon and Radio Disney. They also attracted the attention of Britney Spears, who added the sisters to her list of opening acts on her 2000 world tour.

The single "Sister" was released in the UK on April 10 2000, it was the #1 added song to national radio and debuted at #18. "What's a girl to do" was released as a follow-up later that year, it peaked at #55. It was while the girls were overseas that they received the news of their winning an ARIA for Best Independent Release in 2000. They were also nominated for Highest Selling Single.

Television Careers

After touring extensively through the USA, UK and Europe, Sharon and Christine returned home to Sydney and decided to turn back to a previous passion and re-enter the world of television. They were VJ's on MTV's Australian Top 30 for 18 months.
