Laze & Royal is a hip hop, rap, alternative, Pop group hailing from North Hollywood, CA. The group is made up of two 19-year old twin brothers, Bennett "Laze" Armstrong and Justyn "Royal" Armstrong. Laze & Royal originally started as a group named "2XL" which was later renamed "Hollywood High School" which was finally changed to "Laze & Royal."

Background

Laze & Royal's devotion to music stems from their parents. Their father sang tenor for The Platters and their mother was a stage singer. At home, their mother would play Al Green and The Platters while their older brother Jeff exposed the brothers to Snoop Dogg, N.W.A, Sublime, and Eve 6. Through these eclectic musical influences, the brothers began singing and rapping. When they were 11-years old, they were discovered by producer Christopher "Tricky" Stewart (Atlanta based co-creator of Rihanna's "Umbrella").

A crucial componenet of Laze & Royal's career has been their current manager, David Esterson of Monopoly Music. Esterson met Laze & Royal when they were 14, providing them with a Pro Tools equipped studio and pushing them to become a self-contained writing/producing/recording team without equal. The group takes pride in being one of the few groups to write and produce all of their own material.

The group's song "Like a Pistol" grabbed the attention of BMI's 2007 Pop Songwriter of the Year, Kara DioGuardi which eventually led to a meeting with the CEO of Warner Bros. Records and subsequently a record deal with Warner Bros. Records. With "Like a Pistol" catching fire at radio stations and their online fan base explding, Laze & Royal are hard at work on their debut album.

2XL

As the hip hop duo 2XL, the group released the full length album Neighborhood Rapstar via Monopoly Music and Tommy Boy Records. The album was released on February 20, 2007 and most notably featured super producer Scott Storch, DJ/Producer DJ Unk, bay area veteran E-40 and several others. The album's singles were "Kitty Kat" featuring E-40 and "Magic City" featuring Cherish.
